SERVE’s foundational approach to research begins during undergraduate coursework and culminates with the potential for funded graduate level research appointments

Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REUs) are 10-week-long experiences that take place from May through August. Students from UT will conduct REUs at UNC Charlotte, and vice versa.

Students will participate in supervised real-world research topics important to the US Navy. Students also have the opportunity to work on a selected defense related research topic in state-of-the-art laboratories and will present their work at the end of the REU

Students will also participate in weekly seminars on topics ranging from research processes, ethics, available graduate school programs, and presentation and proposal writing skills. In addition, SERVE students will have the opportunity to work closely with US Navy research personnel and participate in networking and recruiting events.

Research faculty at both UT and UNC Charlotte will mentor program participants on defense-related summer research projects.
